SHALOM HAPPENSTANCE

South Africa-raised Saddle Creek signing Shalom made a significant impression on us with her addictive recent-ish single 'DTAP' - a tune that we described as "a joyous new alt-pop gem" from the now Brooklyn-based artist. As well as revealing details of her debut album Sublimation, set for release on the 10th of March, 'Happenstance' is an honest and imaginative piece that'll stir up conflicting emotions. Melancholy lyricism sits atop of buoyant instrumentation, filled with a sense of hope and acceptance that adds a lightness to the weighty words. The opening line hits particularly hard, stating, "I'm waiting for the day that I can finally walk away from all this bullshit...", creating a refreshing sense of relatibitliy that instantly puts you at ease. Sonically angsty and poppy at the same time, 'Happenstance' deserves to be celebrated by blasting it from the loudest speakers you can get your hands on. -Holly Mullineaux
